Sharing Hope. Transforming Lives.
Hope to Share Life, PLLC is the private counseling practice of Mary Beth Harbin, LPC, who is on a mission to create a nurturing environment where safe connection and corrective experiences foster hope — even when all seems lost.
While Mary Beth is a Licensed Professional Counselor, she is first and foremost a real person who knows real struggle and survival, failure and success, hurt and hope. As a survivor of domestic violence and other abuse, Mary Beth’s story includes both deep wounding and ongoing healing. Becoming herself means more than recovering from what others have done to her — it means reclaiming the parts of her identity, voice, and purpose that trauma tried to take.
Survival was her beginning. Sharing hope is her becoming.
Mary Beth is not perfect, but she is being made new — more authentic, more grounded, and more full of hope. Her lived experiences shape how she shows up in the room: with humility, deep compassion, and genuine care. She delicately balances boldness with gentleness, interdependence with healthy boundaries, and utter disappointment with unshakable hope.
Mary Beth considers her work as a counselor part of her ministry and lives out a Christian faith commitment. While her spiritual worldview informs how she approaches both life and counseling, she offers genuine respect, safety, and care for every person — including those who do not share her faith.
Mary Beth believes that fear and mistrust are not born in isolation — they are born in relationship. When heartbreak, betrayal, or loss enter our stories, it can feel nearly impossible to trust others, ourselves, or even God. Suddenly, the world feels smaller.
We shrink back. We may even wonder why a God we once knew as good and close now feels distant or silent. But even in that space — that desert of confusion, abandonment, and grief — Mary Beth holds fast to a deeper truth: While people are harmed in relationship, they are also healed in relationship.
This belief is the foundation of her approach. Though the wounds of relational harm run deep, they are not the end of the story. Over time, those same wounds can become quiet evidence of survival, strength, and healing.
She is drawn to the promise in Hosea 2, where God leads His people into the wilderness — not to punish, but to speak tenderly to them. It’s in that very wilderness, Scripture says, that He turns the Valley of Achor — a place of deep trouble — into a door of hope.
Healing may not come quickly or easily, but it is sacred work — and it often begins in the presence of shared hope.
Mary Beth considers counseling a sacred invitation into the hurts and hopes of courageous overcomers and resilient survivors of abuse, betrayal, chaos, dysfunction, and addiction.
She demonstrates genuine care for the heaviness people carry — the invisible scars of loneliness, shame, regret, and loss — and honors the strength it takes to show up and share them.
Walking alongside individuals who are often labeled as “too emotional,” “too sensitive,” or “too much” is one of Mary Beth’s highest privileges on this side of heaven. She feels deeply called to support those who can’t simply “shake it off,” “let it go,” or “move on” in the ways others seem to expect.
Transformation, as Mary Beth sees it, is not about erasing pain — it’s about helping people recover what has been lost or buried beneath it: self-worth, identity, belonging, safety, voice, and the capacity for connection. It’s about remembering who they are.
She knows that when someone begins to feel truly heard, seen, and valued within the safety of the therapeutic relationship, something sacred happens. In that space, a corrective emotional experience takes root — one that begins to mend what was once torn, misunderstood, or ignored.
And in that sacred space, hope begins to do what it does best: make room. Room for voice. For choice. For joy that once felt unreachable and peace that once seemed impossible.
That’s what transformation looks like. Not overnight — but over time, in trust, and with genuine care.
Mary Beth fosters a space where clients feel fully seen and accepted, offering unwavering positive regard, empathy, and honesty.
She listens with genuine curiosity, taking the time to understand not only what is shared but also what may be left unsaid—always valuing the client’s unique needs and values.
Mary Beth’s approach is grounded in person-centered and integrative techniques, meaning that therapy is customized to each individual’s needs.
She incorporates a variety of evidence-based practices, such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Eye-Movement Desensitization & Reprocessing (EMDR), and Internal Family Systems (IFS), thoughtfully selecting the most fitting methods to support each client’s healing journey.
Mary Beth is passionate about meeting clients where they are, especially in the difficult, painful spaces where healing often begins. With expertise in trauma and grief counseling, she brings a deep understanding of the layers these experiences carry.
She is particularly dedicated to supporting women’s mental health, recognizing the unique and often unspoken challenges women face in emotional, relational, and societal contexts.
Mary Beth offers both in-person and telehealth sessions to meet clients where they are—both physically and emotionally.
She is recognized by the Mississippi Board of Examiners for Licensed Professional Counselors as an approved Distance Provider and uses secure, HIPAA-compliant technology to ensure privacy and confidentiality during online sessions.
